Happy New Year 2019!

A crisp dawn with bright, blue skies
Bring you new happiness and new heights,
As the old year goes, on the horizon are
New memories, milestones and infinite growth.

It seems hard for me to believe, but it is here! 2019, the last of the teens 😉

I have grown up along with the years in an almost uncanny way, and it seems like a great year to have fun, and be responsible all at the same time. I have not got to making resolutions yet, but I am planning on doing it soon. Getting fit is always a priority, but seems like that along with the other promises are off to a slow start. Nonetheless, I believe the will to start anew, and with fresh vigour is equally important.

Here is wishing everyone a happy and prosperous new year, where you grow for good, and enjoy each moment fully. I know I have a lot of changes to make as a person, as a friend, as a sibling, and I am hoping that I can do them all justice.

In terms of being thankful, I would not be able to name all the people who have made 2018 memorable for me, or being a part of my life that drives a change. But thank you to everyone who loved me enough to be truthful to me. Thank you to all the people who hated me enough to make me change paths. Thank you to my family and friends who have supported me through thick and thin. Hopefully, I can deserve the same kind of love and support in the years to come, and I can extend the same towards all the people in my life. All I can ask is for God to forgive me, and bless us all!

Have a happy new year, everybody! 🙂

Love: Elfchen!

Love,
ricochets off
your stony heart
to leave you wanting
more.
Next, for #augunfiltered, we had to write an Elfchen on ‘Ricochet’. ricochet – (of a bullet or other projectile) rebound off a surface. Ex: a bullet ricocheted off a nearby wall”

Elfchen is a type of poem of eleven words in a specific format of words per line:

Row 1: one word
Row 2: two words
Row 3: three words
Row 4: four words and
Row 5: one word.

Elf is the German word for eleven. Adding –chen to a noun in German gives it a sense of being wee or dear. The word Elfchen (always capitalized, as are all German nouns) translated into English is roughly elevenie. Sometimes that can happen. Initially, the feelings of love don’t affect someone. But later they pine for the same emotions again. Because they feel lonely or unloved. But it’s too late by then.

I’m traveling, and have scheduled a few posts so I do not miss out!

Something I’m worried about.

Will my words ever be enough
to calm the storm of emotions
and the thunders of a healing heart?

Prompt: Something I’m worried about. I did the daily posting challenge over on Instagram where this was one of the prompts. All were very thought-provoking and that made you search your soul for words.

I could have written something mundane – like life, struggles, and daily chores, but this had a certain profoundness and truth that I couldn’t resist myself!

Here lies…

If you’re looking
for the girl who wrote poetry,
she died. And here she lies,
with a head full of ideas
and a smile brimming with life.
She left her stories behind.
She’ll still be here if you care
In her truest words, in the black and white.

For the prompt: Write 5 lines that would appear on your epitaph. I’m posting daily on Instagram @sv__poetry! I never felt that I was so good to write for my own epitaph. But wanted to be so meta as to do that for the challenge. In our culture, we don’t have burials or epitaphs, which made this even more unique for me. Leave comments about what your preference should be for the words on your stone.

Daily Posting in February

Hey! Almost every one of you would know that I have an Instagram account where I only post my original poetry. The account is fairly new considering I’ve been blogging for over two years now. And in the spirit of the Valentine month, I took up this daily posting challenge started by the Illogical Poem World account. They have posted a list of prompts for each day of February, and announce the winners for each day by following the hashtag.

And, I’m posting everyday on Instagram! I am on a roll. It seemed like a daunting task in the beginning but I’ve done it for 10 days without fail. I would love to have all of you guys with me there too. Leave some encouraging comments, likes and follows. I would be delighted! 🙂 My account is sv__poetry. I post only the shorter forms of my poetry, because those get the most engagement.

Full Disclosure: Poetry is my valentine. And yes, I’m a dork. But I love Love. And who am I to deny the inspiration that it serves for some excellent writing!

Top 10 Reasons Why You Should Have a Blog

Last night, I had a very weird thought strike me- what would I be without my blog? How would my life be different today? How would I express myself?

These questions were different from the food-related ones that normally float around in my mind 😉 I believe that when I started my blog, it was just going to serve as a motivation for me to write more. And that it still does! I set goals for the posting schedule and mostly stick to them which gives a regularity to my writing. And going diverse – poems, write-ups, haiku, creates a beautiful mix I think. So for today’s Top Ten Tuesday, I am listing down all the reasons why you should have your own blog.

Almost all of the people reading right now would already have a blog, probably more accomplished than mine. But you can find out why I write for my blog. Also, this can be directed towards new writers. Continue reading “Top 10 Reasons Why You Should Have a Blog”

Versatile Blogger Award

It’s a good week when you’re nominated for one blogging award. But, when you receive TWO in the same breath, it’s a blockbuster week! Sheryl, from the BIA Atlas blog, nominated me for the Versatile Blogger Award on September 22. And David of Occasional Dreams nominated me the very next day. It is a big compliment because Sheryl nominated David too. So, now we’re like a big happy family spreading the award cheer all around 😀

I’m sure my excitement is palpable as I haven’t done an award post in so so long. Needless to say, I have a few (pending) awards to thank people for! Sheryl is an author whose journey began with a sentence – “No Joe, I don’t believe in superheroes.” Thrilled? Continue reading “Versatile Blogger Award”

Blog Birthday & Bonus Blogging Tips

Today, July 12 is the official birthday of Vintage Sapience, yay! Once again, I thank you all 🙂 I wrote a sappy post yesterday, but obviously, that’s not enough ( Emo old me!)

I had wanted a blog for long but kept postponing it, because I didn’t know the when and the and how. It was a new thing. But, when I started off with WordPress, everything looked so much simpler, I didn’t stop planning and designing my blog for a whole week! Continue reading “Blog Birthday & Bonus Blogging Tips”
